ABOUT

WHY WE CELEBRATE

According to the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010” or Republic Act No. 9994 (2009), the Filipino Elderlies or Senior Citizens are defined as the “individuals belonging to the age group 60 years and over”. They compose 6.8% of the 100.1 million total population of the country in 2014 (Antonio, 2015). In essence, the senior citizens must enjoy rights as equally as the rest of the people; their rights don’t disappear along with their age (Social Watch Program & United Nations Development Program, 2016).

However, despite the elderly being a basic sector in society; they are still the eighth poorest sector in the Philippines with a poverty incidence of 16.2% in 2006 (Ubalde, as cited in De Leon, 2014). The elderly are left with an unstable and insufficient income after retirement relying on multiple but informal sources such as pension, support from family members, earnings from livelihood, income from work and more (Antonio, 2015; De Leon, 2014; Cruz & Camhol, 2013). Here at Sweet 60, we will try our best to reach and help senior citizens by providing them information that will be shared through their children and family members.

MISSION

Recognizing the importance of senior citizens in the country, we are dedicated to imparting senior citizens the programs, their privileges, and the idea to encourage an active aging life.

VISION

To make everyone realize and value that the life of senior citizens as important as everyone. Their life is a gift that’s worth celebrating.
